NRB Magazine - Your Invitation to a Silver Celebrationby Lisa Anderson
At the 2002 Winter Olympics, gold was the color of choice. For Focus on the Family, however, silver will do just fine. This year, Focus celebrates its Silver Anniversary, recognizing 25 years of ministry to families worldwide.
The anniversary festivities have already begun. Special broadcasts chronicling the organizations history are being taped, a 25th anniversary edition of Focus on the Family magazine hit mailboxes in March, and special events throughout the year will showcase the many memories made since the ministrys founding by Dr. James Dobson.
The most notable reflection of the latter is the creation of the Heritage Pavilion, under construction beginning April 2002. Located on Focus on the Familys Colorado Springs campus, the Heritage Pavilion is a five-story, 10,000-square-foot structure designed to depict the Focus story from 1977 to the present. The theme of Gods Faithfulness prevails via a chronological Heritage Walk, unique displays surrounding many of the current Focus ministries, a broadcast studio and an extensive collection of photographs and Focus memorabilia. The Heritage Pavilion opened on Memorial Day and will remain open throughout the summer. Designed to accommodate between 500-1000 individuals per hour, the pavilion is a visitor-friendly, accessible way of sharing in reminiscences of the past 25 years. Admission is free.
Consider this your invitation to celebrate a milestone with Focus on the Family. Incorporate a trip to Focus in your summer vacation plans. Take a tour of Focus headquarters, race down the three-story slide, visit the newly expanded bookstore, and sip a root beer float in the Whits End Soda Shoppe. Then, stroll down memory lane in the Heritage Pavilion. Relive some of Focus on the Familys most memorable broadcasts, and celebrate the work that God has done through Focus in the past 25 years. Its a family reunion you wont want to miss.
